Career Change Background & SDLC Detail
November 1997 Contacts and investor backing in place to launch my own loan servicing/banking venture. The goal was to start my own bank. To do this well, I sought banking positions to learn the detailed responsibilities of each job.

December 1998 Contacted by Advanced Information Resources (AIR), a company that developed and supported its own commercial lending software, Advanced Commercial Banking Systems (ACBS).

ACBS, a commercial lending database management tool, has 8 of the 10 largest banks in the world as clients (The Banker July 2003). To manage their client's business requirements that were outpacing development updates, AIR sought Business Analysts with extensive front and back office banking experience to work with the technical staff.

Understanding my skill was limited to banking; AIR offered to train me in the software development lifecycle (SDLC), initially as a Quality Assurance Tester, later as a Business Analyst.

Aware that a cross expertise of banking and software development would be a unique challenge, I accepted the offer.

Developed proficiencies in Automated and Manual testing designs. Implemented test strategy, plans, scripts, test certification, standardization of templates, build validations, defect recording and tracking, functional, regression, integration, and user acceptance testing of software. Set conditions of testing of source code paths and coverage.
proficient
Expanded Tester role to Business Analyst by building on testing skills. Interacted with client's front and back office personnel to define business requirements and software usage. Created change requests for developers by defining feature and functionality boundaries. Worked closely with technical staff to validate business requirements and expectations. Tested new code implementations to expected results and cross-functionality occurrences.

- The code was written in LANSA on the AS/400 server. And later on Oracle9i. Using the platforms of Windows NT, Windows 4.0, and Win95.

Executed extensive business requirement validations for Y2K compliance. Worked with every client individually to ensure data integrity and product stability. (Please see Client List below for specific clients.)

Created Test Plans based on the client's business requirements and distributed Test Scripts for execution. Managed 6 Test Plans within 2 projects over 14 months, resulting in 2 product release updates (a total of 200K+ new lines of code introduced). Black Box and White Box testing scenarios were supported by User Acceptance Testing validations.

Initiated departmental efforts to achieve CMM/SEI rating (RUP). Polled internal clients (management, technical staff, sales staff, customer service, et. al.) for practices and consensus. Facilitated discussions for developing SEI controls in the development process. A level 2 rating was eventually attained.

- September 2000 ALLTEL Information Services purchased AIR/ACBS. Required by ALLTEL to completed 3 courses in Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) and 2 courses in Project Management (PM). In accordance to experience and courses completed, ALLTEL officially certified and reclassified me to Business Analyst I.

February 2001 Lead Business Analyst for new product module Secondary Sales & Trading (SST). Participated in and facilitated JAD sessions for implementing clients trading business requirements into development lifecycle.

- A total of 18 features with 70+ functionalities written in Lansa for the Windows (GUI) platform and integration transparencies were defined for product acceptance. A total of 1MM+ lines of new code.

Requirements were implemented through the course of development and I facilitated technical staff and clients for maturity of the Project Plan. Constant redefinition of feature and functionality boundaries were handled with open and accessible communication lines to managed development expectations.

Wrote User Acceptance Test Plan and initiated execution. We (4 BA's) completed testing 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Exercised 3 mock implementations and 8 mock conversions prior to General Availability (GA) date.

September 2001 Promoted to Business Analyst II. Given responsibility to create Project Plan for updating and converting the front-office (DLO 5.3) module from LANSA on the AS/400 server (green screens) to Visual Basic (VB) Windows based Graphical User Interface (GUI). Participated in JAD sessions for defining clients front office business requirements. Facilitated meetings with technical staff to gain consensus for feature development, timelines, milestones, resources, and to impart an understanding of our clients business needs.
